Frankly, this seems more like a battle royale than a tournament.
Earlier this week, ASUS Republic of Gamers announced the first-ever ROG Masters tournament for the Asia-Pacific region, which promises to bring around 500 of the region's best professional and enthusiast Counter-Strike: Global Offensive teams together for one spectacular fight
aturally, Singapore makes up one of the 15 participating markets, and all interested enthusiast teams can register for our country's qualifiers (which will commence on the last week of March) via the official tournament website starting Feb 8. As for professional teams, they will automatically bypass the qualifier stage, and will instead be allocated seeded positions within each country's finals.
Once the top 16 teams from each country have been determined through a best-of-one knockout format, they will proceed to the national finals, where they will then go head-to-head against the pro teams in best-of-three matches starting from March 28. There will be no prejudices here, either - enthusiast teams will have as much opportunity as pro teams to win and go on to represent Singapore at the regional finals, which are scheduled to commence on the fourth week of April. Of course, it's not all work and no financial incentive - the winner and first runner-up of the Singapore qualifiers will receive US$800 and US$400 for their efforts respectively.
Additionally, given the ongoing pandemic and safety measures in the various participating countries, the competition will primarily be held online, and only the most important junctures, such as the country and regional finals will be livestreamed.
Finally, after all the dust settles, the top 32 teams from the region will clash at the regional finals - the current prize pool for the tournament is US$32,600, and the distributions for 1st to 3rd place contenders (in US dollars per team) are listed as follows:
- 1st: US$10,000
- 2nd: US$3,500
- 3rd: US$1,500
As such, if you think you and your buddies have the CS: GO skills it takes to snag the regional crown, go ahead and give the ROG Masters a shot. Just make sure to do it before registration for the Singapore qualifiers closes on Feb 21 - can't play if you don't sign up, right?
